Artist's Statement Since I could hold a crayon, I knew I wanted to be an artist. The smell of craft paint, the chewed-up grain of a pencil, all of it was intoxicating, even when I was 5. I remember getting excited when my family and I passed the colored pencils in the supermarket. I used to draw fantastic imaginary scenes on brown paper grocery bags and on the backs of mis-used computer paper. As I got older, I began to get more and more curious about other artistic mediums and so I sought out new and interesting ways to conjure up these imaginary worlds. My mother brought me with her to ceramic shops and marzipan-sculpting classes where I learned to use my hands in their entirety. Every now and then I would sneak into her craft-paints and try my hand at a painting. The more I learned, the more I craved bigger and more complex projects. Now 20, I've taught myself how to sculpt, paint, draw, and sew. I utilize all of my skills to create various forms of bright and chaotic scenes the best I can. My works usually consist of strong, audacious, reckless, and sometimes insane women who each have attitude and a personality all their own. I try to make each piece connect to the viewer to where they can allow themselves to succumb to the bright colors and the busy design of subject's wild world and entertain them-- at least a little while.
